Chapter One

The only thing keeping her alive was the half-diamond emblem on her chest. She was called Princess Voluptua, wearing a well fit suit of red and fiery yellow, with a glowing emblem dead center. She also wore a face mask, to conceal her features.

Of course those who knew her by her real name, always said there was no mistaking those curves, or attributes. She could be nobody but Nicolette Brown.

Now she found herself trapped in a globe like energy field, and it was shrinking. It pulled the air out as it contracted. Her hands and feet outstretched as she tried pushing back against the – thing.

Voluptua’s symbol glowed showing different colors, white, yellow, red, and no idea if they meant anything or not. Mild static shock waves went through her body. Then, the globe exploded outward – she was free.

A welcome blast of air hit Voluptua’s gratified face, she eagerly swallowed it. Then soared up to face her would be killer.

In a costume of her own, a form fitting, metal, life suit, Doctor Alexis Huffington stood in mid-air. Brilliant woman.

As she broke free, her foe screamed, “That should have killed you!”

“Oh, give it a rest.” Voluptua screamed. “Why do you want to kill me, Dr. Huffy?”

“Stop calling me that! I hate that moniker!” the woman screamed. “You have to die, before you kill all of us!”

“Yeah, well, I’m not so fond of Princess Voluptua, but all the good identities have been taken,” The heroine said. “You could help me figure this out, so no one get hurt.”

“It’s not possible,” the doctor hoarsely responded. Fear was in her voice, had been since before this particular attack. “You must be destroyed!”

The Princess did not understand. Along with anger about nearly being killed – again, she felt sorrow for the woman.

From the corner of her eye Princess Voluptua saw the media gathering on the ground. Cameras zeroed in on the battle.

“I’d hoped we could be friends,” Nicolette called. “I came to you for help.”

“I am helping you,” Alexis responded. “I’m going to kill you and destroy that – thing.”

The emblem on her chest? The heroine drew in a deep breath. Then soared at her enemy.

The doctor pushed a button on her belt. A portal snapped open just long enough for Dr. Huffy to escape through it. Then it shut.

Princess Voluptua settled to the ground. Reporters surrounded her.

Cameras focused on the heroine as her chest heaved repeatedly. Nicolette forced a smile onto her face.

“This is Nicene Babushka, reporting for ICBM. That’s Intercontinental Broadcast Media. Bringing you the latest face-off between Princess Voluptua and her nemesis, Doctor Huffy!”

“Princess Voluptua is but one of a number of new superpowered heroes to emerge in conflict against powerful evil peoples and organizations they had been turned as the evolvers buy those in scientific communities who attempt to study yeah I believe that they are simply another step in the evolutionary chain that humans will inevitably follow about forty years have passed since the last period of heroes which ended with the deaths of some mighty heroes.”

The reporter’s Cinnamon colored face gleams on the computer screen, a full pearly smile and curly dark hair. Her face radiated energy, and her smile a little too perfect.

Her image faded, displaying a fight between the two costume clad women. Her honey like voice continued, “we are fortunate to get audio of them speaking, as well as action video!”

The cherubic reporter shoved a microphone into Nicolette’s face. “Dr. Huffy has escaped again. How do you feel?”

Nicolette’s mouth hung open a few seconds. She considered her words. “I feel sorry for her. Wish I understood her need to kill me.” She shook her head. “Huffy could have a brilliant and successful career.”

An ocean away, and Ellen Burke’s watched the action on television and her furrowed eyes focused on the heroine’s emblem. Alarms buzzed inside her. She pulled the pink robe tighter about herself.

Princess Voluptua? Well, all the good names were taken. Or copyrighted.

Nicene’s cautionary voice sounded as the fight replayed. “With the emergence of a new generation of super powered Evolvers, the world holds its breath.”

Not all the world. Ellen listened to the continuing interview. She was a curvy, bosomy woman. Why did super outfits always accent sexuality? Coal black hair, a face mask, eyes concealed.

Her costume was red, yellow lightning like stripes. The diamond emblem center. The diamond was what Ellen focused on. She sipped some lemonade.

   “Mom?” Her daughter entered.

“Hey, dear.” Ellen said. The young woman looked so much like her. Despite her age, they could be sisters. Blonde hair, blue eyes. Good curves.

Her daughter was Lauren, an accountant. There was also a son, Donald, he was in the military. Most recently assigned to some hush-hush job with the United Nations League. Ellen was a bit worried for him.

Ellen’s eyes focused on the program.

“What are you watching mom?” Lauren asked.

“A news report on the Evolvers. Seems they’re coming back in full force.”

Lauren’s hands gently massaged her mom’s shoulders. “Mom, it’s been over a month since dad’s death.” S hesitated. “Don and I think you should maybe get out and do some traveling you shouldn't stay home all day by yourself just watching television

she smiled and looked at Lauren he right I do need to do some traveling sweetheart show you too will be fine while I'm away I'm going to go ask the waters and visit center old friends

happily Lauren smiles shut like a good idea mom love you.

“Remember the Valkyrie heroine from a previous age?” Questioned a reporter. “Called Fura?”

Ellen stiffened at the old heroine’s name. “Actually, I think I’m going to be taking a little trip.”

“Oh, wonderful, Mother,” Lauren said. She drew back. “Well, I’m off to work.”

“Have a good day dear.” Ellen called as her daughter headed to the door.

“When will you be leaving?” Lauren asked.

“In the morning,” Ellen said. “I need to make some preparations.”

    “Have fun,” Lauren then exited.

Ellen jerked her robe about herself as she rose. In her bedroom, she pulled on a red-white striped blouse, some jeans and boots. Opened a jewelry box.

Inside the box was a ring, with an opal gem center. Ellen picked up the ring and eyed the stone. Sadness flexed through her, then she slid the ring onto her finger.

Energy filled Ellen’s body like static shock. She smiled.

The sun made her eyes squint when she stepped out back. The horse barn was a bit of a walk.

The barn smelled of horse. Hers and her husband’s. Lauren would take care of her Father’s horse – Big Red.

“Come’ere,” Ellen called to her own steed. Loads of thoughts and memories rambled in her mind. That emblem on Princess Voluptuous’ costume. It stirred bad memories.

“We have work to do, Thor.” She said as the black and white stallion nuzzled her cheek.  It responded to her words with a throaty rumble.

Turning, Ellen moved some hay off the floor. There, one of the boards, actually a secret door. She pulled it open. Then grabbed up a sword in her hand and held it high.

The blade was silver, the hilt gold. A smile formed on her face. “Time for Fura to return.”
