Head Librarian Charles Foryear was very excited as he and Barbara Gordon placed the special ring in its display shelf. It was a relic on loan from Cairo, to help the library with promoting its Egyptian History awareness month.

One thing about Foryear, he was far too interested in the arts his building contained. Too much to notice curvy young woman like Barbara Gordon, a well formed brunette with big brown eyes.

Nearby stood a middle-aged guard, the pot-bellied man smiled and stared at the scarab-ring. “Bet any number of crooks would like to get their hands on that thing,” The guard commented. “According to legend it is supposed to give the wearer power over others, they look into the ring, and the wearer can control them,” He laughed, “Sorta like a Lord Of The Rings.”

Barbara smiled and shook her head. That was what bothered her. “I am rather concerned that some villain may just try and steal this trinket, particularly the nefarious King Tut, or even that new mystery criminal the King Of Crime.”

The guard tapped the revolver at his side; “No worries girlie, me and ol’ hammer have it under control.”

Foryear pushed the horn-rimmed glasses up his nose, “Very good Mr. Ranger, but I’m afraid the likes of Tut, or, yikes, even the Penguin may be too much for one security guard to handle.” His beady eyes shifted to Barbara, “Could you perhaps speak to your father about having a police detail guard this valuable treasure? Perhaps even the dynamic duo?”

The security guard frowned, “Really Mr. Foryear.”

“I would be happy to, Mr. Foryear,” Barbara, “Who knows Batgirl may be available.”

“I do suppose she would do,” Foryear said, and sighed.

She would more than do, thought Barbara. She headed off to police headquarters to pay her father a visit. Barbara sighed, it would be nice someday if Batgirl got the same respect and admiration that Batman and Robin received.

Meanwhile, at police headquarters  ………..

In Commissioner James Gordon’s officer, Blue-eyed blonde Detective James Evans reported. A Chicago native, he was investigating a new crook in Gotham, called himself the King Of crime.

“I still have reservations,” Gordon said. “Usually we leave these costumed thugs to the caped crusaders.”

Detective Evans was not used to working with costumed heroes. They didn’t have any in Chicago.

“I understand that commissioner, but I’d really like to have a crack at this egocentric nut,” Evans said. He put the file folder down on Gordon’s table. “No sign of that armored car he stole, nor of its drivers, but we did manage to get some pictures of him from a hidden camera when he ripped off the Diamond collection at Sarah’s Fine Gems.”

Gordon nodded. “Very good.” He held up a photo from the folder, “Humph, purple costume, very royal like, cape, crown,” Gordon shook his head.

“Commissioner, I think I know his next most obvious target,” Evans said enthusiastically. “The library just got in a scarab ring from Egypt, it is supposed to have mystic powers, and if nothing else would be worth a pretty penny.”

Gordon put the folder down. “Hmm, yes, yes.”

The window of Gordon’s office exploded, and a knockout bomb filled the room with gas before they could react. Gordon collapsed into his seat and his head plopped down onto the desk.

That was when Barbara entered her Father’s office. Waving the smoke away, as fear pounded her heart. She screamed. “Daddy?Daddy?” Barbara’s voice called.

Her father moaned and pushed himself up, “What?” He looked around; the folder and Evans were gone.

“I’m calling Batman and Robin,” Barbara said. Relief swept her knowing her father was fine. Soon Batgirl would also be on the case.

Stately Wayne Manor…..

Gilligan’s Island played on TV as Dick and Bruce sat and watched. “That Gilligan is so funny,” Dick said.

“Yes, yes,” Bruce replied.

“So, Bruce,” Dick started uneasily. “Uhm, are you and Barbara Gordon dating?”

Bruce looked to his youthful ward, “What?”

“Sirs, the red phone.” Alfred announced.

Bruce and Dick sprung up and went to answer.

“My father has been attacked in his office and one of our detectives kidnapped by a mysterious nemesis?” Barbara’s frightened voice announced.

“We’re on our way, Miss Gordon,” Bruce said, looked to Dick, “To the Bat poles.”

Meanwhile, Barbara Gordon got her father a cup of water and waited. She wondered which villain was responsible for this.

“It must be The King Of Crime,” Commissioner Gordon said.

After first seeing that her father was okay, Barbara Gordon slipped back to her house and changed into her Batgirl costume, then quickly returned to police headquarters, arriving simultaneously as the dynamic duo.

“Sorry we’re late commissioner,” Batman was saying as batgirl entered, “traffic was bad.”

Gordon informed that what had happened, the kidnapping of Lt. Evans, the vanishing file on the King Of Crime, and Barbara’s concerns about the legendary scarab ring.

“Brave of Lt. Evans to take on a supervillain,” Batman said. “Don’t worry commissioner, we will find out what has happened to the young detective, and capture this self-proclaimed King Of Crime.”

In through the window cam the Batgirl. Looking swell in her figure hugging costume.

James Gordon sigheeed. “Why doesn’t anyone use the door?”

“Batman, I think this scarab ring would be a perfect target for the King, or one of Gotham’s other criminals,” Batgirl said. “With it, they could rule Gotham.”

“If the ring actually works,” Robin said. His eyes following the dominoed dare-doll’s figure. He imagined her out of tht costume.

“Batgirl raised a good concern,” Batman said.  “You go to the library and guard the ring, we will try and track down the King.” He took a communication device from his belt, ‘if anything happens, give us a call.”

    “Right Batman,” Batgirl replied.

“Where do we start Batman?” Robin asked.

The phone rang and Commissioner Gordon answered. “Yes? What?” he looked towards the terrific trio, “It’s the King of Crime, and he’s in the process of robbing Mercie’s Jewelry store.”

“Good, we can capture him red-handed,” batman said. “Come one Robin.”

At the library -

Something bothered Batgirl as she took her position. She’d read up on this ring, and went over that information in her head. Now, there was a gut feeling that something was wrong. The security guard had seemed reluctant to receive any help, maybe it was a guy thing, still, she’d feel safer keeping an eye on that ring.

Trapping the Dymanic Duo -

Batman and Robin arrived at the jewelry store. The King of Crime laughed, and looked at his watch, “Perfect, just as planned.”

“What are you talking about?” Batman asked. “You expected us to show up?” Okay, he knew it was hardly a new idea.

“Well, of course, Dynamic Duo, a good king must anticipate everything,” He boasted.

A massive overheard chandelier suddenly fell on top of Batman and Robin, knocking them both out.

When they came to, they were tied and locked inside an armored car, “Here’s where we say goodbye, Dynamic ones,” the King’s voice called from outside. “I have to see if my spy has succeeded in procuring a ring for my bling,” he laughed.

“The Jewelry store heist, it was just a diversion, Batman realized, that meant Batgirl could be in trouble.

“Have a nice dip,” King called, as the armored car was started up and began rolling downhill.

The library felt to quiet and empty. Batgirl hid behind a bookcase. Near the ring display.

Noises of a stifled mouth came from Mr. Foryear’s office. Batgirl went to investigate. Tied to a chair, was Mr. Foryear.

“Shame you decided to work late tonight,” the guard was saying. He held a gun in his hands, “But I gotta get this ring to the king before those interfering heroes arrive.”

He removed the ring from its case, and smiled. Raised it up and looked the gem over. “Great.” He laughed, “The King Of Crime is great at strategy.”

Batgirl prepared to swing into action, she poised her self for a quick attack, when another noise sounded, and in strutted King Tut, and three of his Tutlings, “I have come ot claim what is mine.” The rotund villain pompously announced.

    Oh, great, thought Batgirl.

“This ring is bling for the King, you phony pharaoh,” The guard snapped.

“Phony pharaoh?” Tut roared, “You insolent worm, give me that ring.”

Batgirl sprung into action, with a cartwheel she grabbed at the ring, both spun around, and crashed into a bookshelf, which toppled onto them. As she slowly recovered, Batgirl saw the ring on the floor, Tut grabbed it. The villain laughed, the faux guard was knocked out.

Tut raised his staff and popped batgirl on the head, she fell to the floor, “Bring her along,” Tut ordered his underlings. He smiled, a slave fit for a king or Pharaoh, he laughed.

King’s Quarters-

For a couple months the King’s Royal hotel has been closed for renovations. The King of Crime has set up his operations and throne room in the grand ballroom. King sat upon his throne, awaiting the coming of the scarab ring.

“Boss,” An underling started, stopped, “Er, your majesty, about that death trap we left the Dynamic Duo in, don’t you think they could escape easily?”

“Oh, yes. That wasn’t a death trap, that was just to keep them preoccupied,” King replied. “Don’t worry loyal minion I have plans for the caped crusaders.” He laughed. “There are things worse than death you know.”

His plant who’d pretended to be a security guard rushed inside, “Your highness, trouble.”

“What?” King’s face soured. “Didn’t you get the ring?”

“I had it in my hands, your highness,” He knelt before the throne, “Then the head of the library shows up and I hadda tie him up, then Batgirl and we tussled, then that dratted King Tut, and he took the ring and left.”

“So, King Tut has the ring and Batgirl now,” King snarled. “Come boys, we need to pay a visit to that phony pharaoh before the Dynamic Duo catches up with him.”

The Duo Escape as Planned -

As the armored car they were prisoners in hurtled towards the water, the back doors blew out and Batman and Robin leaped for freedom. Robin splashed into the water and pushed himself up, “You know, as far as death traps go, that wasn’t much.”

“That was just a delaying tactic, Robin to keep us preoccupied,” Batman said, picked himself up and brushed himself off. “I’m sending for the Batmobile, then I’m going to call Batgirl, and warn her about the King Of Crime.”

“She may already know,” Robin said. “By the way, about you and Barbara, I think you male a nice couple.”

“What makes you think we’re dating?” Batman asked.

“Come on Bruce, you’re always taking her to social functions, but, hey, that’s good.” Robin answered.

“If only I could find a way to have a serious relationship,” Batman said. “But, there’’s this whole secret identity thing.”

“I think she would understand,” Robin said.

“Or think I’m nuts,” Batman replied.

Slave of the Pharaoh—

Batgirl came to a prisoner of King Tut. Not tied up or anything, which she found a tad insulting. If it were the Dynamic Due, they’d surely be bound.

“Ah, welcome back, my dear Batgirl,” King Tut, and showed off the scarab ring on his finger, “My old ring is finally back where it belongs.”

Her communication device sounded. Batgirl went to answer, Tut took it from her, “Ah, this must be Bat Brains and his Boy Blunder,” Tut said arrogantly. “Batgirl and the ring are now my prisoners, and soon she shall be my slave.” He laughed, and then angrily spluttered, “I am not a phony pharaoh.” He hung up and handed the communicator back to Batgirl.

“They’ll know who the pharaoh is, when through the ring they bow at my feet.” Tut said and laughed.

Tut held up his ring towards Batgirl, “And. Now my dear, you shall be the first of the Bat Family to kneel before the pharaoh.”

Batgirl grabbed Tut’s arm and swung him into one of his three Tutlings. The other two lunged at her, she cartwheeled out of they way and they smashed into each other.

Batgirl assumed battle position, as the Tut gathered himself together.  His three charged at her, the Batgirl put into action the martial arts skills taught her by master Richard Dragon, and floored both of them.

“When did you start hitting?” Tut asked.

Then BONK, Tut was smacked on the back of the head by Crime King’s Staff, his five men, waved revolvers and rushed in. King took the ring from Tut’s finger, and placed it on his own.

“At last, at last.” King roared, “Victory.”

The Tutlings and Tut were lined up. Batgirl looked at the two men who pointed their revolvers at he, for now she would give up. “Okay King, what next?” She challenged.

“Let’s see if this thing actually works, shall we?” King said.

Actually, that was an intriguing idea, Batgirl thought; it would be nice to see if the ring actually did work. He showed it to the Tut gang who looked directly into the gem; Batgirl couldn’t help but think King Tut didn’t know better than to do that.

Tut and his trio pledged their allegiance to the king of Crime.

King roared in triumphal laughter, and sent one of his guys to invite a bunch of other villains to his lair, and turned to Batgirl, “Now, my dear, it’s your turn.” He pointed the ring at her, “Pledge your allegiance to the King Of Crime.”

Batgirl raised her arm, “I pledge my allegiance to the King Of Crime.”

Mere moments after the King of Crime and his lackeys and prisoners have left, Batman and Robin arrive at King Tut’s lair. They observe the signs of battle.

“Where could they be?” Robin asked. “Everyone has vanished with no trace.”

Batman took out his communicator and opened it, a yellow light was flashing, “No, Batgirl’s homing signal is still activated and I am quite sure that she Tut and his Tutlings have been captured by the King Of Crime, as well as that ring.”

“Oh, great, she has probably been enslaved by that weird ring thing,” Robin said in a voice of exasperation. “This could be a trap.”

“Of course,” Batman said. “He plans to enslave us as well, I’m quite certain. We have to go after them, now.”

“But, how do we resist the power of that ring?” Robin asked.

“I don’t know old chum, but we have to try,” Batman said. “Or Gotham is lost.”

Back at the King’s Headquarters-

Batgirl gazed coolly into the light-blue eyes of Detective James Evans; the bound and gagged detective was seated in a chair in the King’s room. Evan’s hands were behind his back. Batgirl looked around at the others, involved in some conversation, she walked to Evans, and slipped her hand down his back to his secured hands.

Looking at her, Evens wondered why she kept such a petty face hidden by a mask. Actually there was something familiar about her figure and face.

“Your guests have arrived your highness,” King Tut announced, now he was called Chamberlain Tut.

“Very good Chamberlain,” He looked to his goons, “How many have come?”

“Well,” Tut said. “There’s the Joker, Penguin, Shame, Louie the Lilac.”

King’s eyes turned to the messenger, “Where are the others.”

“Sorry boss,” The messenger said. “Egghead’s in solitary, Riddler just kept popping riddles, and we couldn’t find the catwomen.”

“You mean Catwoman,” King said. “How many do you think there are?”

“Oh, three or four,” The messenger said.

King sighed and shook his head, “Come on, Batgirl, and bring the detective.”

“Yes your highness.” Batgirl replied and jerked Evans up. Hopefully the dynamic du were homing in on her and would arrive soon, she thought. The poor king was about to be in for the shock of his life – she was not under the control of the ring, she feigned a ruse to get to the detective.

The visiting villains gathered around a table. Penguin puffed his cigarette, Joker played with some marbles. “Oops, I seem to have lost a marble. Hea-Ha-Ha.”

Penguin watched Batgirl, her body shifted and swayed with sexy strides as she served them wine.

“Waagh,” thundered the Penguin as King and the others entered the throne room. “So, you are the King of Crime eh?”

“Pfah,” Joker snapped. “I am renowned as the clown prince of crime, so called by even the caped crusaders themselves.”

“Prince, yes,” King replied. “But, I am the King Of Crime, as I am about to demonstrate. I have stolen this ring from the one called King Tut, and he is now my chamberlain, his Tutlings and even Batgirl are now under my control.”

    Batgirl strode to his side.

Evans looked at the hot costumed redhead next to him. Something about her figure, and her jaw was familiar.

“Soon, this detective will also be my servant, and shall return to police headquarters and kill Commissioner Gordon.” King said.

“So, what do you need us for?” Shame the cowboy crook asked.

“He plans to make us his lackeys,” Louie snapped. “Well, I’ll have no part of it.”

The King held up his ring, “You will have no choice, look into the stone of my ring, and lose your wills to your king.”

The villains looked despite themselves and -  - a cape fell over the King’s ring, the startled villain fell back, “What?”

Batgirl sprang right into action. “Don’t look at that stone, whatever you do, criminals,” she warned. She had to get that ring, however, before anyone else did.

King Tut raced at Batgirl, but a freed Lt. Evans cut him off with a karate chop to the back of the head.

As King’s five goons went for their guns, Penguin’s umbrella shot out a flume of tear gas at them, they choked and staggered, their weapons fell.

“What are you doing? Helping her?” Louie asked.

“Batgirl just saved us from becoming the King’s slaves,” Penguin said. “I think we owe her a debt, after which we get the ring, come on guys.”

“ha-ha-ha!” Joker laughed. “The fowl bird is right!” His hand clasped the hand of a underling, a former tutling. The buzzer on Joker’s hand shocked the man who screamed.

Batgirl wrestles with the King on the floor, as the villains battled the goons and Tutlings. Evans tried to fight his way through to her, a rap to the head made him collapse to the floor.

As Penguin watched the cute young heroine, he felt impressed. She was beautiful. Once he had planned to marry Barbra Gordon, but that was just a scheme to try and gaain some legal immunity to his crimes.

Batgirl, she was a bird Penguin wanted.

The Dynamic duo came swinging in through a window. Upon seeing them, the villains fled, and left behind the goons and tutlings.

King broke free of Batgirl and raced to his throne, as the terrific trio surrounded him.

“It’s over King,” Batman said. “You’ve lost your crown.”

“Very clever Batgirl, how on earth did you resist the power of the ring?” King asked.

She gave a Cheshire smile, “I was never under your control, King.” Her arms crossed over her ample bosom. “And I’ll not tell, I may wish to use it again someday.”

Batgirl held the ring in her gloves.

    Robin helped the detective up.

King nodded in approval. Reached to the side of the throne, “Till next time heroes, next time.” Suddenly the throne shot down through a trap door.

    “Escaped,” Robin said.

“Well, we defeated his plan, saved Detective Evans and got the ring back.” Batman said, “Thanks to Batgirl.”

Batgirl smiled happily, “Could you give me a ride back to the library? I need to return this and get my batcycle.”

Spinning around, Batgirl looked about. “It seems the other criminals, Joker, Penguin and pals, made their escape.”

“But not King Tut,” Robin cuffed the villain’s wrists.

“I got it from here folks,” Evans said and looked to Batgirl again. “Have we met before?”

    “I don’t believe so detective.”

Batman looked to the young detective, “We haven’t met. Welcome to Gotham City.”

“Thanks Batman.” Detective Evans said. “I know you heroes usually take care of these megalomaniac creeps, but as a cop I feel it is my duty to pursue the.” He took a breath. “The public is paying me to.”

“I admire your courage,” Batman said. “Hopefully we will be able to work together.”

Their captured prisoners were taken in by the cops.

Epilogue . . . .

The shower was quire refreshing.

The ring was returned safe and sound. Barbara Gordon shook her head, at the newspaper headline: “Dynamic Duo thwarts King Of Crime.”

Then Barbara noticed another story which put her in mind of what one goon had said about there being three or four catwomen. At various jewelry and fur robberies, different catwomen were reported, different descriptions and different costumes. Weird she thought, worth looking into.

A radio news cast blared the following message, “A.P.B. Commissioner James Gordon and Chief Ohara have just robbed the Great Diamond Jewelry store.”

    Barbara rose in shock.

Relaxing in his lair, Penguin thought about Batgirl. How could he make her his? The Ring? No, she broke that spell somehow.

The bad bird considered the idea, as he thought about Batgirl. Then he read the lletter in his hand. From Gotham Underground United, a competition to determine who the true king of crime in Gotham, was.

An evil smile was on his face. “Waagh!” What better way to be the King of Crime, take Batgirl as his bride, and vanquish the Dynamic Due.
